Howard University in collaboration with the African Union Mission in Washington, D.C. and Member State Embassies sponsors an annual simulation of the African Union, the regional organization of African states, in the form of an International Model African Union Conference. Celebrating forty-five years of simulation of the OAU and now AU, the 23nd Annual International Model African Union Conference is scheduled for February 20-23, 2025.
The International Model African Union Conference in Washington, D.C. is augmented by pre-conference study at home institutions and Embassy briefings in Washington, D.C. It provides a unique opportunity for university and college students to study the role, structure and activities of the African Union as well as the capabilities and constraints that shape the policies of AU member states in the arena of intra-African diplomacy. In addition to a prepared agenda in each of five committees, students in the Executive Council grapple with a contemporary crisis to be revealed at the Model.
Each participating university represents one or more Member State of the African Union. Materials needed to prepare and participate in the simulation, in particular the Delegation Handbook, will be available online. In addition, your delegation shall be briefed at the Embassy of the country/countries you represent or at the Mission of the African Union to the United States.
Country assignments are now being made for the 2024 Conference. For registration and other information please contact: Dr. Michael C. Nwanze Department of Political Science, Howard University, Washington D.C. 20059, Telephone (301) 879-8866, Email mnwanze@howard.edu
